Integral part of cancer team. Med/onc is the chemo deciders. Longer term relationship with patients. Ability to sub-specialize (breast, GI, etc). Rad Onc was HUGE awhile back as various radiation therapies seemed to be the future of oncologic treatment. Residency spots exploded to compensate for the need. I think the general consensus is that rad onc is "so easy" by other specialties, and I know quite a few junior residents (myself included, a few years back) who had a hard time making the transition from call-based internships to the regular schedule plus massive studying that is expected in our field. Rad onc is somewhate more technical related, I think. You like call, rounding the wards, placing catheters and chemo -> heme/onc.
