Engineers have to examine it and see if any of it is safe or a total loss. Her major concern is the people who stayed on the island and have no way out. I know this seems trivial in comparison to everything else going on, but for me it's reassurance that even though Sanibel was beaten and battered, it has survived and will heal. The debris piles on the roadways and all of the huge trucks with clam claws create a traffic slowdown as it is. This is a beautiful Gulf beach. Both the Weather Channel and CNN have interviewed the Mayor of Sanibel Island. Right now, she has no idea when the causeway will be repaired.
